My name is Samantha, I am an apparel merchandising major at Seattle Pacific University, currently working as a sales associate at Nordstrom. I’m passionate about fashion design, trend forecasting, and understanding market trends within the retail industry. Through both my academic experience and hands-on work in retail, I’ve developed a strong interest in the business and creative sides of fashion.

This year’s MODE Fashion Show brings together student designers, stylists, and hybrid creatives to showcase cohesive looks inspired by the theme of cinema. Each student interprets the theme through their own creative lens to create collections and styled looks that capture the artistry and individuality of fashion.
Fashion Forecasting
These trend analysis’ were conducted at the beginning of the school year. We focused on forecasting upcoming fashion trends, consumer behavior, color palettes, fabrics, and market shifts. These projects helped me research runway collections, social media trends, and retail movements to identify what styles would resonate with consumers in future seasons. By analyzing trends before beginning the fashion show process, I was able to gather inspiration while also ensuring that my collection remained relevant, marketable, and aligned with the current direction of the fashion industry.
Market Trend Research
Conducting market research has allowed me to analyze key trends in consumer preferences and industry movements to stay up-to-date with how consumers are shopping, and what is influencing their decisions.
Apparel Production & Evaluation
For this group project, we developed a fictional apparel brand called “Exceler” and created professional tech packs for a full garment line. Each tech pack included detailed construction specifications, fabric and trim selections, points of measurement, and fit standards, simulating real-world communication with a manufacturer.
Omnichannel Retailing
For this project, I selected a category of interest and developed a simulated brand that incorporated the omnichannel retailing strategies and concepts I learned throughout the quarter.

Flat Pattern Design
The final project in this class was to draft, cut, and sew a handmade pattern using at least three different manipulation techniques.
Visual Merchandising
This group project gave us the opportunity to design and create a window display for Studio RA, a local Seattle boutique. Through this experience, we collaborated to develop a visually engaging display that reflected the brand’s aesthetic while applying visual merchandising principles learned throughout the course.
